Comments: One of the volumes of the Australians at War series by Time-Life Books. This volume illustrates the role Australia played in Vietnam, which was much the same as the U.S. role but on a smaller scale.
Australia began sending advisors at first, teaching RVN soldiers how to fight the Viet Cong guerrillas actives at that time. Thanks to its experience in Malaya the Australians were uniquely qualified to teach counterinsurgency tactics. Later, at the behest of the United States, Australia sent combat troops and served as an element of the 173rd Airborne Brigade (Sky Soldiers).
Australian soldiers proved themselves resolute and skilled soldiers, defeating both the Viet Cong and the NVA in battle after battle until pulled out as part of a “peace plan” which left the Republic of Vietnam out to dry.
This is a great, well-written book, packed with photos, maps and other illustrations.
