Comments: A great account of the war experiences of some RAAF personnel stationed at Penfoei airstrip on Timor in 1941-42 as part of a forward line of Australian defence. When the call for evacuation came, this group remained to maintain radio communication for as long as possible, and became known as the Penfoei Pedestrians. They managed to escape through the harsh terrain and were ultimately rescued by the Americans.
