Comments: The family of two First Fleet convicts, John Small and Mary Parker, now numbers over 25,000 members.  This book acknowledges 134 members of this family who served Australia in the Boer War or World War 1. Each of these people has a story that includes something of their lives before and after their military service. Twenty-two of these servicemen were killed in action in WW1 and nine were awarded medals and crosses for gallantry. Also included are lists of 260 family members who served in WW2 and 13 who have served in more recent conflicts.

The book is targeted at the descendants of First Fleet convicts John Small and Mary Parker and the service personnel whose lives are detailed are in family order.  However, there is an index where they are listed in alphabetical order.  Many of the soldiers have photographs that were supplied by their family members; some are portraits, some are copies of certificates or letters and some are pictures of memorials and headstones.
