Comments: The classic story of a prisoner of war of the Japanese during World War 2.

Tom Wade was born and partly raised in China. In 1940, he resigned as a journalist in Shanghai and joined the British Army in Singapore. He was captured after the Fall of Singapore and suffered hardship, torture and brutality at the hands of his captors at Changi, Korea and Tokyo. At Tokyo Headquarters camp in particular, Wade and his fellow POWs had to suffer the paranoid beatings and victimisation of Sergeant Matsuhiro Watanabe, who successfully avoided prosecution by the War Crimes Commission at war’s end.
