The Germans do not call the pistol the ‘Luger,’ but rather, ‘Pistolen-08,’ because it was adopted by the German Army in 1908. The Swiss adopted it first, in 7.65 mm in 1900, with the first pistols arriving for service in 1901. The German Army adopted it in the 9mm ‘Parabellum’ (for war) caliber.
