Comments: History of the Egytian Expeditionary Force during 1917 and 1918 - includes the Australian Light Horse

The campaign in Palestine 1917-1918 with 56 maps and detailed order of battle.

Operations in the Middle East were regarded as a side show in Europe, but the activities of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force against the Turks were the last of the old days of the cavalry. Infantry, artillery and air forces were also involved, but the charges of the Australian Light Horse for example were magnificent, even if they were some of the last mounted operations of any army. The history of the campaign is accompanied by a detailed Order of Battle of the British and Commonwealth forces involved, but the real strength of the book lies in the narrative of the campaign.

The main stages of the campaign are covered in the text, but what makes this book so valuable is the section of 56 plates which show all the moves and attacks of the campaign from start to finish. In addition each map has an accompanying text which explains in detail what was happening. This book is essential for any student of the last days of operational cavalry, Commonwealth forces in the First World War and anyone interested in the campaign in the desert. Some of the analysis was written by LtCol T E Lawrence (“Lawrence of Arabia)
