Comments: This book is dedicated to all the women who served Australia in The Australian Women's Land Army in World War II.

This excellent book brings together all the elements of the story of the Land Girls and fills a gap in the recorded history of Bathurst. The book is of significance to Bathurst, to the Land Army, to the Military, to the Department of Veterans Affairs, to the State and Commonwealth Governments and to the people of Australia.

The Land Army girls came to Bathurst in the summer harvest seasons of 1942, 1943 and 1944 in groups of over a hundred and their presence must have created quite a stir in the town. Their main activity was to address the severe farm labour shortage brought on by the war and ensure that the asparagus harvest made it to the Edgell's food cannery firm where it was dispatched, after processing, to feed the troops in the Pacific War Zone. This required a daily routine which began at 4.30 in the morning allowing the daily harvest to begin by 5.30 a.m.
